CLEANING AND REPAIR
Regular cleaning and inspection are two of the best things you can do for
your jewelry and watches. You will appreciate the benefits of this service -
fantastic-looking jewelry, watches that operate more efficiently, and the
opportunity for the jeweler to spot and repair problems (like bent clasps or
loose prongs) before there is any breakage. All of our stores have the ability
to clean your jewelry, and some may have staff on hand to perform more thorough
examinations.

MOUNTING AND SIZING
If you own a loose diamond or other gem that you would like to set, bring it
to one of our stores. We'll help you select a mounting that fits your stone and
reflects your personal tastes; then we'll mount the stone professionally.
If you have jewelry like a ring or watch that does not fit properly, we can
usually make the adjustment. Keep in mind that some adjustments may not be
possible based on the jewelry or watch style, or the condition of an older
piece. Also, ring sizing policies in our stores can vary, so please ask one of
our sales associates for details. (For example, rings with channel-set stones
may be more difficult to size, if at all.) Otherwise, we can re-size your rings
quickly, professionally and affordably.

WEARING JEWELRY
Wait to put on jewelry after applying makeup, perfume or hairspray. Handle
gems and pearls as little as possible since skin oil can build up over time and
dull their appearance.
Remove your jewelry if you're going to do any manual labor like housework.
A bracelet is easily broken or bent if it catches on a hook. Gems, including
diamonds, can chip or crack if they are knocked against a hard surface. Harsh
solvents used in cleaning can harm jewelry and are particularly harmful to pearls.
If you wear earrings, it's usually best to remove them while having your hair
styled. That way, the stylist's comb will not catch on them. Never wear pearl
earrings or necklaces when having your hair colored. Some of the coloring agents
contain alcohol and other chemicals that can mar the luster of the pearls.

STORING JEWELRY
Jewelry can also suffer damage if not stored properly. Even though diamonds
are the hardest substance on earth, they can be scratched by other diamonds as
well as by gold or platinum. For this reason, be sure to store your jewelry so
that the pieces do not come into contact with each other. Wrap individual pieces
in tissue or cloth, or put them in separate compartments in a jewelry box. Be
extra careful with pearl jewelry because pearls are soft and scratch more easily
than gems and metals.
Often jewelry comes in a special box, bag or wrap. Keep these containers.
They are often the best means for storing or packaging the jewelry and will
provide protection from damage and dirt.
